1 ISPs
I use Aussie Broadband (referrer link). See Australian ISPs for more tips if you are in Australia.
2 DIY open-source routers
If I flash my weird router box with custom firmware, is that more secure? Less? A quixotic waste of time? I don’t even know anymore. DD-WRT is the most popular OS router firmware though, if you want to try it.
For sure, at least this single-purpose software will be easy to configure, for all that routers are kinda crappy computers for their price.
See VPN AP for one use-case: encrypted traffic.

4 Guest networks
Networks with minimal access to your intimate house stuff. Set one up.
For a guest network, it might be safe to create an open login code, e.g. How to turn your home Wi-Fi password into a QR code.
